João Moutinho


PhD in Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering

Has a degree, master and PhD in Electrotechnical and Computer Engineering by Universidade do Porto. 

He has collaborated since 2005 with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computers of FEUP, as research fellow, guest lecturer and was, between 2012 and 2016, a doctoral fellow FCT by INESC TEC. 

He was responsible for the development and implementation of the acoustic location system and navigation of the NAVMETRO system at the Porto Metro stations. He was also responsible for the research and development of a patented system of localization in interior spaces named AudioGPS, having won several awards such as the best business idea of 2016 by the National Innovation Agency and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Education. 

Since the beginning of 2017, he has also worked as an intellectual property consultant in the Technology Transfer Office of the Universidade do Porto - UP Inovação. His research interests include the areas of indoor localization technologies, signal processing, electroacoustics, psychoacoustics and accessibility for the visually impaired. 

He was distinguished in 2010 for his Master's degree in the area of accessibility and location and acoustic orientation, for the "Maria Cândida da Cunha" award. 

He is also the author of several publications in national and international conferences and journals.
